We've observed what amounts to a mess; an incredible collection of weeds, confusion, misunderstandings and delusions. The task then is to sort through it and discover what's really going on. If we want to
"know" and have a chance to change anything (
intentional change - not just an accidental consequence), we observe, measure, document, study, debate, experiment, and repeat.
